Education Technologies
How can I help you choose the right Education Technologies?
What, Why, How, Who, Where and When

I start with “What” and “Why”
To analyse and help you clarify what is required for your digital transformation, we start with “What” and “Why” but don´t stop there.
- What do you want to do?
- Why do you want to do it?
- What technologies do you need to do it?
- What budget do you have or need?
- How do you plan to implement it?
- When do you want or need to do it? (Project Management – Gantt Chart)
- Who is going to be involved?
- What skill-sets are you going to need?
- And, many many more.
Let me help by deploying best practices and insight from “lessons learned” using models such as the Systems Life Cycle ADDIE model, and Kotter’s 8-Step Change model. These can later be built upon in learning design using Bloom´s Taxonomy, Gilly Salmon’s Five Stage Model of E-learning, SAMR classroom technology integration model and TPack (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) model.
What digital technologies do you need?

Your Website
Are you happy with your website or do you need to update or expand it? Is it responsive to tablet and mobile devices? Is it secure? Do you need tips on improving your website´s SEO (Search Engine Optimization)? Would you like my advice?
I have in-depth knowledge of Website Design:
- using HTML, CSS and JavaScript;
- online authoring software such as WordPress and Weebly, and
- PC-based applications such as Microsoft Expression 4 and Adobe Dreamweaver.
(See my courses on WordPress, WordPress plugins, “Website Security with HTTPS and SSL”, SEO and Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR).

Office 365 or G Suite Productivity Suite – that is the question.
As with all choices there are pros and cons but you need to know what they are so that a choice can be made. I can help you decide between Microsoft Office 365 and G Suite, if you have not already done so.
Cost, ease of use, productivity and integration will be uppermost in your mind. I have a deep understanding of Microsoft Office 365 (OneDrive, Outlook, OneNote, Teams, Forms, Skype) and G Suite (Google Drive, Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Google Calendar, Keep, Hangouts) and how they integrate with other devices and software applications. I can also support you to take full advantage of the various applications on offer.
I am highly proficient in office computer and web applications such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, etc. and Google Chrome.
You can call on my understanding of modern software architectures (client-server, cloud services, SaaS), Web and Knowledge Management Technologies.
Learning Management Systems
Need somebody who is familiar with Learning Management Systems (LMS), Content Management Systems (CMS) and E-Learning standards (AICC, SCORM, xAPI, etc.). Wondering if you need a LMS or an LMS plugin such as LearnDash for your WordPress website?
Considering upgrading to the “new” Moodle 3.7?
I have years of experience supporting, facilitating and creating educational content for Moodle and I am an advocate of the most recent version. Currently I are looking into analysing educational data and improving blended and online teaching.

Computer Technology
Not everyone needs a Ferrari.
One of my biggest surprises over the years is how many education establishments have equipment that they don´t need and don´t have technologies or applications that they do.
Think about what you need over the coming 4 or 5. Every situation is different and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
You may need to do a “needs analysis” and you might need advice choosing between PCs, Macs, Laptops, MacBook Pros, Chromebooks, iPads, Tablets, Interactive Whiteboards, Smart screens, BYOD, wifi etc.
And I can help you with that.
Managing Devices
Have you considered what is involved in managing the various devices?
Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems; Classroom Management Systems; Remote Management; Management of IDs and Logons; Security; Firewalls; Storage; Recharging; Installation of apps; Cloud-based Services; Student content; Data Privacy, and so on.
Build this into your Digital Learning Planning.

Additional Software Apps & Applications
Which applications will you need to install locally, and which are cloud or web-based?
Are there good open-source software alternatives to expensive ones?
Do apple or android devices integrate better with web-based software?
Do you need a keyboard for some applications? What applications and devices do students need to do block-based visual programming languages (e.g. Scratch) or high-level programming languages such as Python?
Do you need a bug tracking system?
Will web-based applications have access to student data? Is this ok?
